So then my call must be N5UDUY because I sign En Five You Double You
Why. Interesting theory, Brad. :-)
If I'm on the HT, I usually use phonetics (cause of the lousy signal) but
I guess I'll do it all the time now seeing as how some are so easily
confused ... :-)

I agree -- I get the sense of listening to one of the old masters of an
art that may well be gone in another generation or two.

Subject: HAM-server information
HAM-server was devised to allow people without direct internet access a way
to get amateur radio related programs and other information. It is not
directly on the internet, so ftp and telnet is not available.
Most of the files on HAM-server are available via ftp from the various sites
around the world that archive them. That's where I got most of them.
In addition to DOS files, there are some Mac and OS/2 files available. I'm
always on the look out for more (particularly Mac and OS/2). See below.
General Information:
===================
There is a daily limit of ALL requests of 3-megs. If there are a series of
files you want to order, stretch them out over a few days, rather than
ordering all at once. That way, you are almost assured of getting them
all, and you won't be blocking others from getting their orders filled.
ASCII (text) files are split at about 59,000 bytes. UUENCODED binary files
are split at about 750 lines.
A new INDEX is automatically generated every Sunday.
Ordering Information:
====================
Send an email to:
HAM-server@GRAFex.sbay.org
In the text of the message, place:
HELP
GET /hamradio/00-INDEX.TXT
HELP will send you the HAM-server HELP file. This is processed immediately
for return delivery.
00-INDEX.TXT is an index of the files and the directory they are in.
If you are using a PC and you do not have UUDECODE, follow these steps:
1. Order UUDECODE.BAS or UUDECODE.C, and UUEXE524.ZIP.
2. Compile UUDECODE.BAS or UUDECODE.C on your system.
3. Use the resulting executable to UUDECODE UUEXE524.ZIP. UUEXE524 has
documentation about UUENCODE/UUDECODE.
You are all set to start ordering binary files from HAM-server.
Some Reasons Why Ordered Files Are Not Received:
===============================================
1. Your return path is incorrect. My bounce mailbox fills up quite
regularly with messages. And, since the path is incorrect, I cannot
contact you to let you know.
2. You have spelled the file name incorrectly.
3. The file name has changed since the INDEX was generated. Order a
new INDEX.
4. You sent your order to me personally or in reply to this post.
Orders are only honored when sent to HAM-server@grafex.sbay.org.
That's the way the software works.
Try the PING command to check that the path is open.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED:
===================
If you have a program you would like placed on HAM-server, you can email it
uuencoded (DOS and OS/2) or binhexed (Mac) to incoming@grafex.sbay.org.
This email address is set up to flag me that there is something new that I
need to take care of quickly.

Subject: Kenwood Control Software WWW Site
I am very pleased to announce my new Kentrol Web Page(s). So far as I can determine, Kentrol is the only radio hobby shareware with its own WWW presence at this time.
Kentrol is a Windows-based rig control/logging/memory management program for Kenwood HF radios that has been distributed online since 1991, initially through CompuServe and more recently via Internet ftp archives. The current version is 4.3. Now, through its new Web Page, amateurs and swls can check out the interface, read the documentation, and download the software.
The URL for all this good stuff is: http://www.synapse.net/Kentrol/Kentrol.html
Please take a look when you have a moment. If you're a Kenwood owner and haven't tried Kentrol, you owe it to yourself.
Thanks and 73,

Subject: Kenwood TS940s-at
I am currently using a Kenwood 940 as my primary station. I
have heard of rumors about the If unit in the 940 emitting a
lot of garbage that can be heard
for "miles" away on other recievers. I've also heard some
rumored fixes for this problem. If anyone has had expericence
with the 940 and would like to share these experiences or would
just like to talk about this rig in general, please respond.
